Managing The Large Food Store of the Future

North America, 1985
North America Council, 1985: In the years to come, supermarket managers will oversee a store with more customers, higher sales volume, greater product diversity and more capital investment. Managing these stores will involve less of a hands-on approach, as well as more delegation and management-by-exception. Along with the need to maintain business standards and store profitability, these managers will build a strong sense of company values in store personnel, using automated information systems to develop plans and monitor results. Their jobs will be training-intensive and more analytical, requiring the development of leadership skills. Also, the expanded role of future store managers will provide more opportunities for job enrichment, creation of alternative career paths and prevention of burnout.
